With trails such as the "Buna Kyoboku Fureai-no-Michi" that runs through a forest of giant 300-year-old beech trees, and the "Anmon-no-Taki Falls" trail that visits three large waterfalls, Shirakami-Sanchi has one of the world's largest primeval beech forests and was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1993.
