SENDAI

Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region. Blessed with a beautiful natural environment, a trip to a hot spring is only 30-40 minutes by train or car from downtown.
Other recommended sights to see are the historic buildings of the Site of Sendai Castle, Zuihoden Mausoleum, the national treasure of Osaki Hachimangu shrine, and the all-glass Sendai Mediatheque.
In addition to the famous specialties originating from Sendai, such as thick-cut beef tongue, sasakamaboko made from pureed fish, and the soy bean paste of zunda mochi, sushi made with fresh seafood and Sendai strawberries are also popular.
The streets of the city bustle with people all year round from the Sendai Aoba Festival in the spring, the Sendai Tanabata Festival in the summer, to the Jozenji Street Jazz Festival in the autumn, and the SENDAI Pageant of Starlight in the winter.
