Ameyoko is a shopping street full of life now and in the old days, in addition to fresh food and candy, it also has shops offering clothes, shoes, bags, and even cosmetics. The good-humored vendors of each shop are firm supporters of face-to-face interaction. The area is always lively with vendors calling out to potential customers. While it is famous for fish and crabs, apart from grocers, there are countless shops that carry shoes, clothing, and even international knick-knacks.

Things to Do in Ameyoko

As the name itself says ("Ameya Yokocho" or "Candy Street") is a street, close to Ueno, where you can find candies, but also salty snacks and many other interesting goods. The stores located on Ameyoko streets are distinctive, traditional and very different from the refined shops you can find in other touristic areas around Tokyo like Shinjuku or Shibuya. Ameyoko is the perfect place to shop for Japanese and international goods while enjoying a unique walk that's so contrasting with the big, flash malls of the Japanese capital, offering you a less cosmopolitan and more traditional shopping experience.
Together with the delicious food shops, Ameyoko is also full of many other stores selling a huge variety of goods. You can easily find a great selection of souvenirs from Tokyo and other memorabilias. How to Get to Ameyoko

If you happen to visit Ueno, maybe right after a visit to the famous park, you can walk and reach Ameyoko in a few minutes. It's very easy to spot: being usually super busy with locals and tourists, you will always find a crowd of people, and the street is conveniently located along the Yamanote Line between Okacihimachi to Ueno Station.

From Ueno Park, you can reach Ameyoko in a few minutes walk.
