The Iwakishi Sekitan Kasekikan, Horuru (Iwaki Coal and Fossil Museum), is a facility where materials on the history of mining at the Joban Coal Fields are on display alongside fossils excavated in the city, and materials on overseas fossils that are a testament to the history of the earth.
On display in the fossil exhibition room are fossils that are of extremely high value even at a worldwide level. The wide variety of fossils are exhibited in dynamic displays that look as if they are about to start moving any moment. The sounds and lights have also been customized to suit the displays.
Several movies are screened every day in the theater room, which are also changed regularly. Visitors may enjoy movies explaining the history of coal mining in Iwaki and Japan, the job of coalminers, and about coal mines in general.
